In addition to its natural beauty, Kamenički Vis is also home to several historic and cultural landmarks like the Monastery of St. Jovan is located 10 kilometers northeast of Niš, in the village of Gornji Matejevac. The current church was built on the remains of the old church from the 19th century. The Monastery of St. Jovan played an important role during the battles for the liberation of Nis from Ottoman rule. The icon of Saint Jovan, located in the monastery, is believed to have healing powers. Visitors to the monastery can see its beautiful frescoes and learn more about its rich history and cultural significance.
