This preserved medieval fortress dates back to the Thracians, and is one of the most significant in the Bulgarian lands. Archaeologists discovered remains of the authentic seal of Tsar Peter – the only silver seal of a ruler from that time ever found. Panoramic platforms are installed on the fortress walls, which offer visitors a unique experience – to have a glimps of the entire city and its surroundings. In addition to the preserved foundations of residential buildings, visitors can also distinguish the foundations of three Christian churches – the cross-domed church, a large three-nave basilica and one of the few known two-story portico-tomb churches.

On the way to the fortress, you can stop at the Lovers’ Bridge over the Struma river, at the beginning of the city park. Few cities in Bulgaria can boast of such, and Pernik is one of them. Filled with the most beautiful feeling between two people, they can keep the belief that the love between a man and a woman must be locked with a padlock to the eternity and also wish for a long and happy family life.
