Mediana

Mediana is one of the most important archaeological sites in Niš, representing the remains of an ancient settlement dating back to the 4th century, which was part of the Roman Empire. One of the most famous buildings in Mediana is the imperial palace, which was likely the residence of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great. This impressive structure consisted of over 50 rooms and halls and was characterized by luxurious decoration, including mosaics and frescoes depicting mythological and religious motifs.

Mediana remained an important settlement until the 6th century when it was destroyed during the wars that took place in this area. After that, Mediana was neglected until the 20th century when the first archaeological excavations began on this site. Today, Mediana is considered one of the most significant archaeological sites in Serbia and is a popular tourist destination for history and archaeology enthusiasts.
