The Stob pyramids are natural formations unique to the Kyustendil region, suitable for a walk during the day and at sunset. If you decide to visit this natural phenomenon, you can choose different routes. The fabulous stone forest can be observed from the village of Stob itself – an option for visitors with difficulty in mobility, and from a height, along the path designated for mountaineers.

The pyramids have been declared a natural landmark and are included in the Red Book of Bulgaria. According to legend, the strange forms are petrified matchmakers who set out for the village to take a local girl as a bride. As was the custom, the bride was veiled and no one knew what she looked like. On the way back, after taking the maiden, the matchmakers sang a song asking the wind to lift the bride’s veil so that they could see her face. The wind heard the pleas, blew hard, and everyone was amazed by the wonderful beauty of the girl. The best man couldn’t hold back and leaned down from his horse to kiss her. At that moment, the matchmakers were petrified, horrified by the shame the best man would bring.
