Hisarluka, Kyustendil

Alley of health, Hisarluka Fortress, music stage under the stars, clean mountain water – all this in a word is Hisarluka.

Hisarluka fortress is located 2 km southeast of Kyustendil. Built at the end of the 4th-beginning of the 5th century, the fortress has the shape of an irregular polygon.

The archaeological excavations carried out record different construction periods of the fortress and prove the continuous and long-term use of the fortress during antiquity and the Middle Ages. Hisarluka is an architectural and construction monument of culture and of “national importance”.

Forest park “Hisarlaka” covers an area of 1300 decares. A large variety of vegetation prevails in it. Many alleys, recreation areas with benches and gazebos, picnic place, children’s and sports grounds, fountains have been built. There is also a children’s sanatorium, a zoo, the “Alley of Love”, the “Holy Forty Martyrs” chapel, and a go-kart track. From the high parts of Hisarluka, there is a panoramic view of Kyustendil and the surroundings, which is a must-see.
